About Me

Growing up in the city, surrounded by towering buildings, I never thought much about where my food came from. Life was fast-paced, and convenience was everything. But in 2020, everything changed. When grocery store supply chains were interrupted, I had to get creative with a lot of things in my life. I learned to live without many of the conveniences I once took for granted. Money was scarce as the world around me shut down, and I had to make every penny count.

Cooking from scratch became a necessity, and I discovered a newfound love for it. I got really frugal with how I spent money and quickly realized that we could live without a lot of things we thought we needed. This sparked my interest in hydroponics. Although my first attempts mostly didn’t work, they worked just enough to plant the seed of an idea in my head: self-sufficiency.

From My Blog

What is Homesteading?

The definition of homesteading is a residence with surrounding land where a family resides, or it could refer to land granted through the Homestead act to settlers moving westward.

In recent times, many people fondly recall pioneer tales passed down through generations and aspire to the resilience and self-reliance of their ancestors. Unlike the harsh, untamed unknown conditions faced by early pioneers, today’s homesteaders face far less dangerous conditions.

The vision of complete self-sufficiency is appealing, but the reality is most homesteaders want to decrease their reliance on grocery stores, energy providers and water suppliers. Present day homesteaders are often people seeking a more independent way of living by cultivating gardens, raising livestock and getting back to basics. Does this sound like you? Stick around and stay connected, there is so much more to learn and grow!
